Malta Dive Regulations

The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) enforces various dive regulations and licenses dive centers on the island. Here are the key points summarized for visiting divers:

Dive Medical Requirements:

All divers must complete a dive medical self-certification form or provide a current diving medical certificate issued within the past year. If there is a positive response on the medical form, a local diving doctor will conduct an examination to determine if diving is allowed. This examination can be arranged for €50.
Note: We can provide customers with a copy of the self-certification medical form via email and offer advice regarding medical conditions that may restrict diving.

Accompanied Diving:

Divers with PADI Open Water, BSAC Ocean Diver, or equivalent certifications are not considered independent divers in Malta.
Regardless of experience or previous diving conditions, accompanied diving with an instructor is mandatory.
You must dive under our instruction, as the Malta Tourism Authority does not recognize divemasters for this purpose.
While this limits independent diving, you will receive free lessons during your dives.
Note: We can register instructors who meet our requirements, including a full instructor medical examination (€50) and appropriate insurance.

Documentation:

You will need to complete standard PADI paperwork, including the Liability Release, Assumption of Risk, and Standard Safe Diving Practices forms.
Our guided dives include a risk assessment, emergency assistance plan, dive log, first aid kit, oxygen, and a mobile phone for emergencies.
Note: Qualified divers should bring their log books and certification cards. PADI qualifications can be verified online, but other agency certifications require physical proof. If you lack qualifications, we offer try dives and courses.
