What does the SCUBA Instructor Course teach you?

Our program prepares you to teach all PADI core courses effectively. You’ll learn how to improve speaking in public, show diving skills better, and keep student divers safe.

We’ll teach you how to handle common training challenges and be in the right place to help quickly.

The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) has two parts: IDC e-Learning and live sessions with our PADI Course Director.

PADI IDC e-LEarning

Before starting the PADI IDC, you must complete IDC eLearning, a self-paced study. This program includes 16 parts, each focusing on different aspects essential for becoming a PADI Instructor and preparing for the IDC. Some topics covered include:

Understanding the PADI System
Basics of Teaching Presentations
Learning, Instruction, and the PADI Approach
Managing Risks and Legal Aspects
Leading and Assessing Knowledge Development sessions

Before starting the PADI IDC, it’s crucial to thoroughly prepare yourself in dive theory. During the IDC, you’ll actively take part in a Dive Theory Workshop and complete practice exams.

These exercises aim to identify and improve any weak areas in dive theory. However, it’s essential to understand that these activities don’t substitute for pre-IDC theory preparation. So, it’s vital to use various resources like the Diving Knowledge Workbook, The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, and guidance from Atlantis Pro Dive Team to boost your dive theory knowledge before beginning the PADI IDC.

Throughout the Skill Evaluations, we aim to refine your skill demonstrations. Despite your extensive practice before the PADI IDC, we’ll offer additional examples and guidance to help you master delivering all 24 skills deliberately and smoothly, creating an effortless appearance for your future students.

In Knowledge Development presentations, you’ll discover how to present a topic linked to a question/answer in a PADI course. This training will provide you with the ability to employ the PADI system and utilize PADI media resources. The focus will be on exploring efficient methods for preparing presentations and refining delivery skills through practice sessions.

The Confined & Open Water presentation training begins with ‘Dry’ sessions, aiming to maximize practice efficiently. These focus on crucial elements like organization, control, and addressing common delivery errors.

Then, you’ll move on to in-water presentations, practicing alongside peers and staff. Here, the goal is to embrace the instructor’s role, handle different situations, and ensure a positive learning experience for students.

Afterwards, a debriefing session follows, allowing exploration of alternative choices and their potential outcomes to refine presentation approaches.

The workshop for Discover Scuba Diving in the PADI IDC is structured around four elements. Its goal is to prepare you comprehensively for conducting the Discover Scuba Diving Experience. These components cover:

  1. Reviewing and practicing program briefings
  2. Practicing confined water skills
  3. Supervising and overseeing open-water dives
  4. Handling participant registration management.

The Advanced Open Water Workshop comprises two sections:

Engage in and observe a role-model Adventure Dive. This involves practicing briefing, debriefing, and demonstrating techniques to meet dive performance criteria effectively.

The second section emphasizes refining your abilities in diver assessment and supervision specifically for the Deep Adventure Dive. Here, you’ll learn how to conduct assessments for this dive and master providing direct supervision throughout the adventure dive.

The Rescue Diver Workshop serves two main purposes:

  1. It offers the chance for you to observe and actively participate in presenting the practical exercises of the Rescue Diver Course.

  2. It aims to enhance your abilities in managing panicked and unresponsive divers, aiming for demonstration-level proficiency in these crucial skills.

As a part of our PADI IDC curriculum, we provide additional in-water workshops to streamline your problem recognition and student control skills.

Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent (CESA)

This workshop dives into the CESA technique, examining both proper and improper approaches from both instructor and student viewpoints, while emphasizing safe skill execution.

Descents

Learn essential techniques for managing three distinct descent forms in this session, ensuring your students meet performance criteria effectively.

Compass & Lift Bag Use

We aim to equip you with a memorable teaching method for compass use, applicable across various courses. Additionally, you’ll learn safe lift bag use, essential for meeting performance requirements during the Search & Recovery Adventure Dive, further enhancing your teaching repertoire.
